First Post

Welcome to my first ‘What’s going on’ post.

For anyone who doesn’t already know me, I am a Leeds based saxophonist and composer. I have have spent the last seven years working as a musician after graduating from Leeds College of Music, but over the last six months I have ventured on a path of musical and self-discovery. Quite often as musicians we get lost or distracted and forget why we got into music in the first place; we lose passion and we lose sight. It was only when I met my wife (Anastasia Belina-Johnson), who began to guide me back in the right direction, and with a newly-found passion and focus that I found myself working hard every day at becoming the musician I want to be.

The two most recent and exciting changes in the last couple of months are that I have put a new Jazz quartet together, ‘The Dan Johnson World Jazz Quartet’ and that I am working everyday composing original material for it. I have had a great deal of inspiration recently listening to Jazz, Classical, and World music and so my most recent project is to create an album inspired by my latest discoveries of the music I hear. I have so far four new compositions, and once I have one or two more the next step will be getting into the Studio and creating a Demo CD. I’ll be posting the tracks on this website and on SoundCloud so keep looking out for that.
